Risk
Manager is a highly scalable, open architecture, client-server
application. It is written in Visual Basic v6 and
.NET. It accesses a claims database hosted by Microsoft SQL
Server. It can be installed and used successfully in a range
of business environments from a single-user, single-computer
installation to a multi-office, multi-state TPA with 100+
users. Both in-house and remote users can be supported by
connections utilizing a LAN, wide area network (WAN), the
Internet, or a combination thereof.
Although the computer hardware and
networking equipment necessary to use Risk Manager will vary
significantly from site to site, the most important factor is
that Risk Manager does not require any special configurations or
proprietary hardware/software for a successful
installation. Risk Manager is intentionally designed to be
easy to install and maintain. The specifications which
follow are intended only as guidelines for consideration during
the evaluation stage of the acquisition process.
Workstation Requirements
Minimum
- Windows 2000/XP Professional/Vista Business, Intel Pentium or AMD Athlon CPU operating at 1.0 GHz or faster, 512 MB of RAM or minimum recommended for the OS whichever is greater, 10 Base-T network connection, 17" monitor and display adapter capable of a resolution of 1024x768 (use of Windows large fonts requires a screen resolution of 1152 x 864 to eliminate scroll bars), mouse or other pointing device, 100 MB of available hard disk space, workstation-attached printer or access to a network printer, TCP/IP connection to SQL Server, and SQL Client Utilities installed.
Recommended
- (Minimum requirements modified as follows) - Intel Pentium or AMD Athlon CPU operating at 2.4 GHz or faster, 1 GB RAM, 100 Base-T network connection, and a 19" or 20" monitor capable of a display resolution of 1280x1024.
File/Database Server Requirements
File Server
- Single Intel Pentium/Xeon or AMD Athlon CPU operating at 2.0 GHz or faster (dual processor configuration is recommended), 2 GB RAM, high performance (7,200 rpm) hard drives (mirroring recommended), 10/100 Base-T NIC, monitor (dedicated or shared), mouse or other pointing device, uninterruptible power supply and database backup systems pursuant to organization standards.
Software
- Microsoft Windows Server 2000 (or later) AND
either SQL Server 2000 (or later) Standard Edition OR
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (or later) Small Business Server, with the proper number of client licenses, are required to host the Risk Manager database. No user licenses are required from ERIC Systems, since Risk Manager is provided with a file server license to access a single production database on a single server. Smaller organization may be able to use the free SQL Server 2005 Express Edition subject to it's limitations.
To Perform IAIABC EDI Transfers
Optional IAIABC Release 1 and Release 3 export modules
are available that create FROI and SROI files suitable for
transmittal to State agencies without further operator
actions. If the agency provides a secure FTP site for
sending and receiving files, nothing other than a connection to
the Internet is required. If the agency requires approval as
a trading partner to send/receive files, then membership in a
value-added network (VAN) may be required. ERIC Systems does
not maintain trading partner status with any agency.
To Print FORM 1099-MISC
The module to process payment transactions for completing Form
1099-MISC filing requirements is a standard component of all
versions of Risk Manager. Forms 1099-MISC, may be printed or
filed electronically. Printing to single sheet forms using a
laser. An option to use plain paper for forms not being sent
to the IRS is also available. Electronic filing requires
registration with the IRS and the ability to electronically
transfer the file to the IRS. Refer to IRS Publication 1220
for additional information.
To Use the Document Imaging Modules Document imaging is a
standard function in all versions of Risk Manager. The most
demanding aspect of imaging is the drive space needed for storing
scanned images. Images are stored in the SQL database, not
as links to separate physical files. System Administrators
implementing or planning to implement document imaging should
monitor available disk space. Use of a separate disk drive
to locate the SQL database or use of a disk array is suggested
for larger organizations and TPA's. Digitizing (scanning)
documents requires the workstation to have a locally attached
Twain compatible scanner.
To Export Standard or Custom Reports Directly to E-mail or FAX
All standard, custom, and "QuickPrint" reports can be exported directly to E-mail or FAX without having to print to paper. E-mail supports the Microsoft MAPI and Lotus Notes standards. MS Outlook, Outlook Express, and many other mail applications support MAPI. Any workstation or network-based FAX application installed where the FAX device is "seen" by Windows as an installed printer can be used. Windows 2000, XP, and Vista include integrated FAX capabilities, if access to a phone line and FAX modem are provided.
To Obtain Program Updates
Program update files are made available for download from our FTP
site on a periodic basis. There are generally multiple files
ranging in size from 1 to 10 MB's when zipped (15-20 MB
total). A DSL or other broadband connection to the Internet
is recommended.
To Perform Medical Fee Adjusting
Utility programs are supplied to import CPT Codes,
relative unit values, and ICD-9 codes published by the American
Medical Association (AMA). Licenses for use are available
for purchase on line from the AMA web site. Pricing is based
on the number of users. Import modules to update these
materials assume record layouts from this source.
To Customize Check Printing
Printing of checks and/or vouchers is a standard capability
of all versions of Risk Manager. Checks may be printed to
blank or printed stock using Crystal Reports layouts or check
data can be exported to a file for transfer to a third-party AP
system. The minimum required for check printing is a laser
printer with a MICR toner cartridge. If not installed in the
printer, MICR fonts must be installed on the workstation used for
check printing. An OEM laser printer optimized for check
printing, including additional security features to prevent
unauthorized use, is recommended. Check layouts must conform
to Check 21 standards and will require approval by the bank prior
to use.
ERIC Systems will supply one set of
four check layouts: medical, indemnity, bundled, and special for
a single printing method. However, if a MICR line is to be
printed, the client MUST obtain the tools needed to verify
placement of the MICR line components AND assume all
responsibility for maintenance of the layouts. A check
layout template and a single-user license for Crystal Reports
. If a graphic logo is desired on checks, a scanner or other
device for image acquisition plus image manipulation software may
also be required. ERIC Systems and service bureaus can also
provide imaging services.
To Export Positive Pay Files
The specifications for positive pay files are specific to
each bank and require custom programming to create. Data
specifications and procedures for testing need to be obtained at
least four (4) weeks in advance of implementation.
To Customize Standard and Custom Reports, Checks, and Correspondence
ERIC Systems encourages its clients to personalize Risk
Manager by modifying standard and "QuickPrint" reports, checks, and correspondence items to reflect their own business identity or to meet specific requirements of clients. Source files for all reports are provided at no additional charge expressly for this reason. Editing source files requires at least one license for Crystal Reports Professional (or Developer) v9.0 or later. Version 11.5 or v2008 are recommended. Retrieving saved correspondence for viewing requires Adobe Acrobat Reader v7 or later
